Gramophone unveiled today the 11 recordings which have beaten more than 800 new releases
to win the 2013 Gramophone Classical Music Awards for best in their category. Celebrating its 90th anniversary year with a new-look, streamlined Awards format, Gramophone announces these for the first time in advance of the Awards Ceremony on September 17 which, this year, is dedicated to the memory of Sir Colin Davis.
The CD ‘Correspondances’ (Deutsche Grammophon) featuring music by the late Henri Dutilleux was awarded the prize for best CONTEMPORARY recording.
Hannigan sung with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen.
“There is no better introduction to the composer’s world. And how appropriate that this year’s Contemporary Award-winner, a 97th birthday present turned memorial to a man who stuck to his own meticulously crafted path, should confirm also the rise to prominence of a singer of like mind, the sensational Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan.”
