Barbara’s “Ophelia” month

Barbara’s season kicks off with Ophelia running as a common thread through all of her performances in September.

On September 4th, she make her debut in Israel with “Ophelia”, a collaborative performance with legendary dancer Rina Schenfeld, and with musical guest Nadav Lev on guitar. The concert includes works by Nono, Cage, Abrahamsen, Berio and Villa Lobos.

Barbara performs one of her signature pieces, let me tell you, with the London Symphony Orchestra, Sir Simon Rattle conducting. The text of Hans Abrahamsen’s song cycle comes from a short novel by Paul Griffiths, using the words sproken by Ophelia in Hamlet. The first performance will take place at the Lucerne Festival on September 9th, followed by the Berliner Festspiele on September 11th.

Barbara opens the Toronto Symphony Orchestra 2019/20 season together with violist/conductor John Storgårds. Barbara conducts the first half of the program with works by Beethoven and Haydn followed by a Dutilleux nocturne with John Storgårds as soloist. After the break Barbara will sing the Canadian premiere of Brett Dean’s And once I played Ophelia, a suite from the Hamlet opera which premiered at Glyndebourne in 2017.
