Elmer de Haas/Barbara Hannigan Photo Exhibition in Göteborg
This season soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan is Artist in Residence with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. In addition to concerts with the orchestra, a photo exhibition featuring portraits of Ms. Hannigan will open this Friday, February 12th in the Göteborgs Konserthus.
“Sirens” and “Soldier’s Tale” are two unique series of portraits made by renowned Dutch photographer and director Elmer de Haas. The steadily growing oeuvre of Mr. De Haas is often characterized as “work that embodies great emotional depth, with a sensitive eye for composition and storytelling.”
“As photographer I always remain the voyeur, while the muse holds the power of invitation. I treasure this balance of intimacy which requires both trust and courage from both parties. The more we can surrender to the space between us, the more we can reveal and discover, without imposing pressure on the collaboration,” says De Haas. “Being a director as well, I am used to guiding my protagonists, but with Barbara, we explored our stage as equals. This selection of photographs from the series “Soldier’s Tale” and “Sirens” opens a window into our landscape.”
The opening of the exhibition coincides with Ms. Hannigan’s performances this Friday and Saturday as soprano and conductor with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. The exhibition, which will be on display until April 3rd, is located in the foyer of the Göteborgs Konserthus and is open to the public.
A special limited edition series of eleven photos has been selected for the Göteborgs Konserthus, available in three sizes and signed by Ms. Hannigan and Mr. De Haas.
